Teaser Tuesdays: Apples to Oysters

I'll be the first to admit that I'm very leery of challenges and so forth, because (for me, I know that this is a very personal thing) they sometimes look like more work than fun. But Teaser Tuesdays aren't so much of a challenge as a way to advertise interesting books. Not to mention that it's really no work at all, and I'm always drawn by that little section excised from a book and displayed out of context. (See also: Seen Reading, which is such a cool project.) So I've decided that I'm going to try Teaser Tuesdays for a while and see how it goes for me.

Teaser Tuesdays are hosted by Should Be Reading. It works as follows:
  • Grab your current read.
  • Open to a random page.
  • Share two teaser sentences from somewhere on that page.
  • Be careful not to include spoilers!
  • Include the title and author.
From Apples to Oysters: A Food Lover's Tour of Canadian Farms by Margaret Webb, p193:

"Her shadow in the noon sun is no wider than a sapling, yet, with one arm, she can heft a five-gallon pail full of water onto the back of a truck -- a task that takes me two hands and considerable struggle. She says she loves growing good food for people though admits being tired of her and Garret's complete focus on farming, misses having the time to do her sculpting and painting."

Thank you! It should be good fun. I've enjoyed reading others' teasers, so I figured it was time for me to throw in my two lines...

Welcome! I love Teaser Tuesdays for the reasons you've stated plus it allows me to find new blogs like yours!

That is a fun teaser and one that leads you to believe that there is more to this book than what the teaser is telling us.

Sounds like an interesting book - thanks for the teaser. :)

Here's my Teaser! ~ Wendi

Catherine - Yes, there's quite a network of book blogs out there, isn't there? And definitely there's lots more to the book. It's a non-fiction but it's also a very easy, fast read. Plus she includes recipes!

Mary - Yes it is! I'm related on all sides to farmers, but I just have my [small, but getting larger] veggie garden. I have tremendous and enduring respect for farmers, who somehow, despite the odds, manage to keep us all fed.

Wendi - You're welcome! It is a very interesting book. I'm learning a lot.

Thanks Marg! It was your teaser that convinced me to start, actually. :)
