I think Granny Weatherwax is my absolute favourite Discworld character too. It's kind of fun to think, though, that I will be able to experience the whole series again in a different way.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10330550798080469047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6907747392138991807.post-38865865974248740902012-01-05T21:12:42.170-05:002012-01-05T21:12:42.170-05:00Mostly I love listening to them, but I have to say...Mostly I love listening to them, but I have to say that it's harder to savor those amazing turns of phrase with the audio books, but they are really fun read out loud, and I'm now hooked.Jillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09551558744801344170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6907747392138991807.post-61454945397331315042012-01-05T20:20:25.864-05:002012-01-05T20:20:25.864-05:00I am enjoying reading the books so much, but I can...I am enjoying reading the books so much, but I can see listening to the series once I've gone through them once; I imagine I'd get different things out of it.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10330550798080469047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6907747392138991807.post-44456827008991534182012-01-05T09:42:49.329-05:002012-01-05T09:42:49.329-05:00I'm glad you have a copy of Reaper Man now - i...I'm glad you have a copy of Reaper Man now - it's a lot of fun. I just bought the next few in the series from audible - we do that thing where you pay a little every month to have the cheap downloads, so I *have* to order things to make it worth it. Such a sacrifice! :-)Jillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09551558744801344170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6907747392138991807.post-38210040232608752852012-01-04T11:01:23.063-05:002012-01-04T11:01:23.063-05:00Woo! Now I've got it sitting on my Kobo waiting for me, so I'll get to it soon! I do enjoy reading these in parallel with you. :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10330550798080469047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6907747392138991807.post-41016512780360328152012-01-03T20:55:28.679-05:002012-01-03T20:55:28.679-05:00Uh-oh - you're caught up with me again! Will ...Uh-oh - you're caught up with me again! Will we be reading neck-and-neck through Discworld again this year? I hope so - it's fun! I'm still doing these on audio (not sure if I've even done my review of this one yet) and I immediately recommended it to my kids to listen to. They were delighted to see some of their favorite witches, and if some of the more adult humor went over their heads, well, I'm sure they'll be rereading it in the future. Hooray for another year of reading Discworld books! :-)Jillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09551558744801344170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6907747392138991807.post-51418553121265033702012-01-03T11:23:26.610-05:002012-01-03T11:23:26.610-05:00I found the exact same thing before I started read...I found the exact same thing before I started reading them, and despite the fact that I love love love them now, I *don't* think they're for everyone. My husband finds them a "bit too cute" for his tastes, though he's not a fantasy fan at all so there's a piece of the puzzle he's missing too.

That said, I think The Wee Free Men or Pyramids are both excellent places to start. You can read the series in order (there are several "sub-series" within that do bear reading in order because of character developments, as well as stand-alone novels like Pyramids) but you really don't have to, and I certainly wouldn't start with the first two, which are fun but certainly not the best of Discworld; they are exercises where you can watch Pratchett just getting warmed up, though.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10330550798080469047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6907747392138991807.post-38936466233751549892012-01-02T19:56:56.607-05:002012-01-02T19:56:56.607-05:00Everyone seems to enjoy Discoworld and that makes ...Everyone seems to enjoy Discoworld and that makes me SO NERVOUS to read them.
